Viburnum lantana (Wayfaring Tree) - Bareroot
Available to pre order - in stock from late October
Viburnum lantana, commonly known as Wayfaring Tree, is a tough and adaptable deciduous shrub native to Europe and widely found in hedgerows, woodland edges, and scrubland. Growing up to 4 metres tall, it is valued as a native hedging plant for its dense structure, resilience, and seasonal interest. In spring, it produces clusters of creamy-white flowers that attract pollinators, followed by berries that ripen from green to red and finally to black, providing an important food source for birds. Its broad, felted leaves turn golden in autumn, adding seasonal colour before they fall. Tolerant of chalky and poor soils, as well as exposed conditions, Viburnum lantana is especially useful in naturalistic planting schemes and wildlife-friendly gardens, offering both aesthetic appeal and strong ecological benefits.
