Taxus baccata (Yew) Ball

£48.95

Yew (Taxus baccata) is a dense native evergreen with extremely dark green leaves. It is a terrific subject for topiary. Yew balls with a diameter up to 60cm are available containerised all year round. Yew balls with diameter over 60cm are typically supplied as rootballs. Taxus baccata, commonly known as the English yew, is a venerable evergreen tree with a rich history and remarkable characteristics. This coniferous species, native to Europe, has dark green needles and striking red berries, but it is perhaps most renowned for its distinctive cones. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, Taxus baccata holds historical significance, often associated with ancient sacred sites and folklore. The yew's wood was traditionally used for crafting longbows, a testament to its strength and durability. Additionally, the English yew is a favourite in the art of topiary, where skilled gardeners shape and sculpt the tree into intricate and elegant forms. Its dense foliage and ability to tolerate pruning make it an ideal candidate for creating living sculptures, enhancing gardens and landscapes with a touch of timeless charm.

FAQs

How will my plants arrive?

Every plant is checked by our team before it leaves the nursery. Smaller plants are securely boxed, while larger specimens and pallet orders are shipped on our specialist plant courier network to protect foliage and rootballs in transit.

How long does delivery take?

Most orders are dispatched within 7 working days. Larger specimens and rootballed plants may take a little longer, as we deliver these by pallet — we'll contact you to arrange a convenient delivery date. Full details are on our [Shipping Costs] page.

What if my plant arrives damaged or in poor condition?

Let us know within 48 hours of delivery with a couple of photos and we'll put it right with a replacement or refund. We stand behind everything we grow and sell.

Do you offer any guarantee on your plants?

All our plants are nursery-fresh and healthy on dispatch and our shipping companies are hand selected for the care they take, so we guarantee the plant's health on delivery. Let us know immediately is soemthing is wrong and we will provide you support.

Are your plants grown in the UK?

We're a family-run nursery based in Welshpool, Powys. Plants are either grown here on site or sourced from trusted specialist growers, and everything passes through our nursery for inspection before dispatch.

Can I collect my order instead of having it delivered?

Yes — you're welcome to collect from our nursery in Welshpool. Just select collection at checkout [or: give us a ring on 01938 553015 to arrange a time].

Do you sell to the public or trade only?

Both. Despite the name, anyone can order from us — and we offer competitive pricing for landscapers, garden designers and trade customers buying in volume. [Contact us for trade terms.]

Can I get advice before I order?

Absolutely. We're real plants people, not a call centre — ring us on 01938 553015 or email orders@derwenwholesale.co.uk and we'll happily help with sizing, spacing, variety choice or anything else.

Do you deliver to my area?

We deliver across mainland UK. Some remote postcodes, the Scottish Highlands and islands may carry a surcharge or longer lead time — see our Shipping Costs page or get in touch.
