Prunus spinosa (Blackthorn/Sloe) - Bareroot

£0.45
Prunus spinosa, commonly known as blackthorn, is a tough and resilient deciduous shrub or small tree, often used for hedging and wildlife habitats. Its young shoots, known as blackthorn whips, are particularly valued for creating dense, impenetrable hedges, thanks to their thorny branches. In early spring, blackthorn bursts into life with a profusion of small, white blossoms, offering one of the first nectar sources for pollinators. Later in the year, it produces dark blue-black fruits, or sloes, which are popular in foraging and traditionally used to make sloe gin. Thriving in a wide range of soils and conditions, blackthorn is highly adaptable and provides excellent shelter and nesting sites for birds. Its hardiness and natural beauty make it a staple in traditional and wildlife-friendly landscapes.
