Prunus lusitanica (Portuguese Laurel) - Rootballed

£15.00

A dense, bushy, evergreen plant with red stalked ovate, glossy green leaves on red stems. Racemes of fragrant white flowers in early summer followed by red berries that ripen to black. Will grow in full sun, partial shade and full shade. Prunus lusitanica, commonly known as Portuguese Laurel, is a versatile and attractive evergreen shrub that is highly valued for its qualities as a hedging and screening plant. Native to the Iberian Peninsula, this resilient species boasts glossy, dark green leaves and dense foliage, creating a lush and elegant appearance. Portuguese Laurel is a popular choice for hedging due to its ability to form a dense and compact barrier, providing privacy and delineating boundaries with its neatly trimmed appearance. Its adaptability to different soil types and resistance to pests and diseases make it a low-maintenance option for gardeners seeking a reliable and enduring hedge or screen. Beyond its practical uses, the Prunus lusitanica also adds aesthetic value to landscapes, with fragrant white flowers in late spring and red berries that attract birds, contributing to the overall beauty of the garden throughout the seasons. FAQs

How will my plants arrive?

Every plant is checked by our team before it leaves the nursery. Smaller plants are securely boxed, while larger specimens and pallet orders are shipped on our specialist plant courier network to protect foliage and rootballs in transit.

How long does delivery take?

Most orders are dispatched within 7 working days. Larger specimens and rootballed plants may take a little longer, as we deliver these by pallet — we'll contact you to arrange a convenient delivery date. Full details are on our [Shipping Costs] page.

What if my plant arrives damaged or in poor condition?

Let us know within 48 hours of delivery with a couple of photos and we'll put it right with a replacement or refund. We stand behind everything we grow and sell.

Do you offer any guarantee on your plants?

All our plants are nursery-fresh and healthy on dispatch and our shipping companies are hand selected for the care they take, so we guarantee the plant's health on delivery. Let us know immediately is soemthing is wrong and we will provide you support.

Are your plants grown in the UK?

We're a family-run nursery based in Welshpool, Powys. Plants are either grown here on site or sourced from trusted specialist growers, and everything passes through our nursery for inspection before dispatch.

Can I collect my order instead of having it delivered?

Yes — you're welcome to collect from our nursery in Welshpool. Just select collection at checkout [or: give us a ring on 01938 553015 to arrange a time].

Do you sell to the public or trade only?

Both. Despite the name, anyone can order from us — and we offer competitive pricing for landscapers, garden designers and trade customers buying in volume. [Contact us for trade terms.]

Can I get advice before I order?

Absolutely. We're real plants people, not a call centre — ring us on 01938 553015 or email orders@derwenwholesale.co.uk and we'll happily help with sizing, spacing, variety choice or anything else.

Do you deliver to my area?

We deliver across mainland UK. Some remote postcodes, the Scottish Highlands and islands may carry a surcharge or longer lead time — see our Shipping Costs page or get in touch.
