Wild privet good for screening. Attracts wildlife.

Ligustrum vulgare, commonly known as wild privet, is a deciduous shrub that plays a vital role in supporting wildlife. With its dense and bushy growth habit, wild privet provides excellent shelter and nesting sites for various bird species. Birds such as thrushes, blackbirds, and warblers find refuge in its thick foliage, using it as a protective cover during nesting and roosting. The small, fragrant white flowers that bloom in late spring are a rich source of nectar for bees and butterflies, contributing to pollination in the ecosystem. The dark berries produced by wild privet are a valuable food source for birds and small mammals, enhancing biodiversity by attracting a variety of wildlife. However, it's essential to manage its growth, as wild privet can become invasive in certain regions, potentially outcompeting native vegetation. Striking a balance in its presence allows us to appreciate its ecological benefits while preserving the overall health of the ecosystem. Please see our GUIDE TO PLANTING HEDGES for more info.

FAQs

How will my plants arrive?

Every plant is checked by our team before it leaves the nursery. Smaller plants are securely boxed, while larger specimens and pallet orders are shipped on our specialist plant courier network to protect foliage and rootballs in transit.

How long does delivery take?

Most orders are dispatched within 7 working days. Larger specimens and rootballed plants may take a little longer, as we deliver these by pallet — we'll contact you to arrange a convenient delivery date. Full details are on our [Shipping Costs] page.

What if my plant arrives damaged or in poor condition?

Let us know within 48 hours of delivery with a couple of photos and we'll put it right with a replacement or refund. We stand behind everything we grow and sell.

Do you offer any guarantee on your plants?

All our plants are nursery-fresh and healthy on dispatch and our shipping companies are hand selected for the care they take, so we guarantee the plant's health on delivery. Let us know immediately is soemthing is wrong and we will provide you support.

Are your plants grown in the UK?

We're a family-run nursery based in Welshpool, Powys. Plants are either grown here on site or sourced from trusted specialist growers, and everything passes through our nursery for inspection before dispatch.

Can I collect my order instead of having it delivered?

Yes — you're welcome to collect from our nursery in Welshpool. Just select collection at checkout [or: give us a ring on 01938 553015 to arrange a time].

Do you sell to the public or trade only?

Both. Despite the name, anyone can order from us — and we offer competitive pricing for landscapers, garden designers and trade customers buying in volume. [Contact us for trade terms.]

Can I get advice before I order?

Absolutely. We're real plants people, not a call centre — ring us on 01938 553015 or email orders@derwenwholesale.co.uk and we'll happily help with sizing, spacing, variety choice or anything else.

Do you deliver to my area?

We deliver across mainland UK. Some remote postcodes, the Scottish Highlands and islands may carry a surcharge or longer lead time — see our Shipping Costs page or get in touch.
