A billowy grass with feathery flower panicles spring- summer. A must have for prairie planting or for a grass bed. Can create an excellent backdrop for flowers to stand out against. Best in well drained soil, in a sunny position. Height : 50cm. Width: 50cm. Stipa tenuissima, commonly known as Mexican feather grass, is an exquisite ornamental grass renowned for its delicate and graceful appearance. With slender, thread-like green blades that sway gently in the breeze, this grass adds an ethereal quality to any garden or landscape. Particularly well-suited for prairie plantings, Stipa tenuissima seamlessly integrates with perennial companions, creating a harmonious and naturalistic composition. The feathery plumes that emerge in late spring and persist into the fall add an extra layer of visual interest, casting a soft, golden hue over the landscape. Its fine texture and subtle movement make it an ideal candidate for mixed perennial beds, where it can provide a contrasting backdrop to the bold forms and colors of flowering plants. Stipa tenuissima not only imparts a sense of airiness and elegance to the garden but also contributes to the ecological balance, attracting beneficial insects and birds. This ornamental grass embodies the beauty of prairie plantings, creating a captivating tapestry that evolves with the seasons.

FAQs

How will my plants arrive?

Every plant is checked by our team before it leaves the nursery. Smaller plants are securely boxed, while larger specimens and pallet orders are shipped on our specialist plant courier network to protect foliage and rootballs in transit.

How long does delivery take?

Most orders are dispatched within 7 working days. Larger specimens and rootballed plants may take a little longer, as we deliver these by pallet — we'll contact you to arrange a convenient delivery date. Full details are on our [Shipping Costs] page.

What if my plant arrives damaged or in poor condition?

Let us know within 48 hours of delivery with a couple of photos and we'll put it right with a replacement or refund. We stand behind everything we grow and sell.

Do you offer any guarantee on your plants?

All our plants are nursery-fresh and healthy on dispatch and our shipping companies are hand selected for the care they take, so we guarantee the plant's health on delivery. Let us know immediately is soemthing is wrong and we will provide you support.

Are your plants grown in the UK?

We're a family-run nursery based in Welshpool, Powys. Plants are either grown here on site or sourced from trusted specialist growers, and everything passes through our nursery for inspection before dispatch.

Can I collect my order instead of having it delivered?

Yes — you're welcome to collect from our nursery in Welshpool. Just select collection at checkout [or: give us a ring on 01938 553015 to arrange a time].

Do you sell to the public or trade only?

Both. Despite the name, anyone can order from us — and we offer competitive pricing for landscapers, garden designers and trade customers buying in volume. [Contact us for trade terms.]

Can I get advice before I order?

Absolutely. We're real plants people, not a call centre — ring us on 01938 553015 or email orders@derwenwholesale.co.uk and we'll happily help with sizing, spacing, variety choice or anything else.

Do you deliver to my area?

We deliver across mainland UK. Some remote postcodes, the Scottish Highlands and islands may carry a surcharge or longer lead time — see our Shipping Costs page or get in touch.
