Sorbus aucuparia, commonly known as the rowan tree or European mountain ash, is a deciduous tree native to Europe and parts of Asia. It typically grows to a height of 30–50 feet (9–15 meters), with an elegant, upright form and an airy, spreading canopy. The tree is known for its pinnate leaves, which turn vibrant shades of yellow and orange in autumn. In late spring to early summer, clusters of creamy-white flowers bloom, attracting pollinators, followed by bright orange-red berries in autumn that are a valuable food source for birds. Rowan trees thrive in well-drained soils and are highly adaptable, tolerating a range of conditions, including poor soils and urban environments. Traditionally associated with folklore and protection against evil spirits, the rowan remains a popular ornamental tree in gardens, parks, and woodlands.
