Griselinia littoralis 'Variegata,' commonly known as Variegated New Zealand broadleaf, is a cultivar of the evergreen Griselinia littoralis. This particular variety is valued for its striking variegated foliage, which adds a touch of visual interest and brightness to the landscape. Griselinia littoralis 'Variegatum' is a popular choice for hedging due to its attractive appearance, versatility, and ease of maintenance. Here are some key features and considerations for Griselinia littoralis 'Variegatum' hedging: 1. Variegated Foliage:
  • The standout feature of this cultivar is its variegated leaves, which are adorned with creamy-white margins. The contrast between the green and white foliage creates a visually appealing and vibrant hedge.
2. Growth Habit:
  • Griselinia littoralis 'Variegatum' shares a similar growth habit with the species, featuring a dense and bushy form. It can be pruned and shaped to create formal or informal hedges, depending on the desired landscape design.
3. Size and Pruning:
  • Like the non-variegated form, 'Variegatum' can reach various heights, typically ranging from 5 to 10 feet (1.5 to 3 meters) or more. Regular pruning helps maintain the desired height and shape, and the shrub responds well to trimming.
4. Coastal Tolerance:
  • Griselinia littoralis, including the 'Variegatum' cultivar, is known for its tolerance to coastal conditions. It can withstand salt spray, making it suitable for hedging in coastal areas.
5. Versatility:
  • 'Variegatum' is adaptable to different soil types, though it prefers well-drained soil. It can thrive in full sun to partial shade, offering flexibility in its placement within the landscape.
6. Year-Round Interest:
  • As an evergreen shrub, Griselinia littoralis 'Variegatum' provides year-round interest. The variegated foliage remains vibrant and attractive throughout the seasons, ensuring a visually appealing hedge even in winter.

How will my plants arrive?

Every plant is checked by our team before it leaves the nursery. Smaller plants are securely boxed, while larger specimens and pallet orders are shipped on our specialist plant courier network to protect foliage and rootballs in transit.

How long does delivery take?

Most orders are dispatched within 7 working days. Larger specimens and rootballed plants may take a little longer, as we deliver these by pallet — we'll contact you to arrange a convenient delivery date. Full details are on our [Shipping Costs] page.

What if my plant arrives damaged or in poor condition?

Let us know within 48 hours of delivery with a couple of photos and we'll put it right with a replacement or refund. We stand behind everything we grow and sell.

Do you offer any guarantee on your plants?

All our plants are nursery-fresh and healthy on dispatch and our shipping companies are hand selected for the care they take, so we guarantee the plant's health on delivery. Let us know immediately is soemthing is wrong and we will provide you support.

Are your plants grown in the UK?

We're a family-run nursery based in Welshpool, Powys. Plants are either grown here on site or sourced from trusted specialist growers, and everything passes through our nursery for inspection before dispatch.

Can I collect my order instead of having it delivered?

Yes — you're welcome to collect from our nursery in Welshpool. Just select collection at checkout [or: give us a ring on 01938 553015 to arrange a time].

Do you sell to the public or trade only?

Both. Despite the name, anyone can order from us — and we offer competitive pricing for landscapers, garden designers and trade customers buying in volume. [Contact us for trade terms.]

Can I get advice before I order?

Absolutely. We're real plants people, not a call centre — ring us on 01938 553015 or email orders@derwenwholesale.co.uk and we'll happily help with sizing, spacing, variety choice or anything else.

Do you deliver to my area?

We deliver across mainland UK. Some remote postcodes, the Scottish Highlands and islands may carry a surcharge or longer lead time — see our Shipping Costs page or get in touch.
