Escallonia 'Iveyii' is an excellent choice for creating a beautiful and functional hedge in garden and landscape settings. Known for its glossy, dark green leaves, fragrant white flowers, and compact growth habit, this evergreen shrub offers several advantages when used for hedging purposes. Here's a closer look at Escallonia 'Iveyii' as a hedging plant:
  1. Appearance:
    • 'Iveyii' features dense and bushy growth, forming a compact, rounded shape that is well-suited for creating a neat and tidy hedge. The dark green foliage serves as an attractive backdrop throughout the year, providing visual interest even when the plant is not in bloom.
  2. Flowering Display:
    • The hedge becomes especially captivating when 'Iveyii' produces its clusters of small, fragrant white flowers. These blooms typically appear in late spring to early summer, creating a delightful display that adds an extra layer of charm to the hedge. The fragrance can enhance the overall sensory experience in the garden.
  3. Versatility:
    • This escallonia cultivar's versatility extends to its ability to create various hedge designs. Whether used as a formal clipped hedge or a more informal, natural-looking boundary, 'Iveyii' adapts well to different pruning styles and can be incorporated into diverse garden themes.
  4. Sun and Soil Requirements:
    • 'Iveyii' thrives in full sun to partial shade. When selecting a location for the hedge, providing well-draining soil is crucial. While it is adaptable to various soil types, ensuring good drainage will contribute to the overall health of the plants.
  5. Maintenance:
    • Regular pruning is essential to maintain the desired shape and size of the hedge. Pruning is typically performed after the flowering period to encourage bushier growth and remove any dead or overly long branches. This practice helps keep the hedge dense and promotes an attractive form.

FAQs

How will my plants arrive?

Every plant is checked by our team before it leaves the nursery. Smaller plants are securely boxed, while larger specimens and pallet orders are shipped on our specialist plant courier network to protect foliage and rootballs in transit.

How long does delivery take?

Most orders are dispatched within 7 working days. Larger specimens and rootballed plants may take a little longer, as we deliver these by pallet — we'll contact you to arrange a convenient delivery date. Full details are on our [Shipping Costs] page.

What if my plant arrives damaged or in poor condition?

Let us know within 48 hours of delivery with a couple of photos and we'll put it right with a replacement or refund. We stand behind everything we grow and sell.

Do you offer any guarantee on your plants?

All our plants are nursery-fresh and healthy on dispatch and our shipping companies are hand selected for the care they take, so we guarantee the plant's health on delivery. Let us know immediately is soemthing is wrong and we will provide you support.

Are your plants grown in the UK?

We're a family-run nursery based in Welshpool, Powys. Plants are either grown here on site or sourced from trusted specialist growers, and everything passes through our nursery for inspection before dispatch.

Can I collect my order instead of having it delivered?

Yes — you're welcome to collect from our nursery in Welshpool. Just select collection at checkout [or: give us a ring on 01938 553015 to arrange a time].

Do you sell to the public or trade only?

Both. Despite the name, anyone can order from us — and we offer competitive pricing for landscapers, garden designers and trade customers buying in volume. [Contact us for trade terms.]

Can I get advice before I order?

Absolutely. We're real plants people, not a call centre — ring us on 01938 553015 or email orders@derwenwholesale.co.uk and we'll happily help with sizing, spacing, variety choice or anything else.

Do you deliver to my area?

We deliver across mainland UK. Some remote postcodes, the Scottish Highlands and islands may carry a surcharge or longer lead time — see our Shipping Costs page or get in touch.
