Elaeagnus x ebbingei ‘Limelight’ is a popular evergreen shrub cultivated for hedging purposes, renowned for its attractive appearance and versatile features. This hybrid plant is a cross between Elaeagnus macrophylla and Elaeagnus pungens, resulting in a hardy and resilient species suitable for various garden settings. Here are some key characteristics and considerations for Elaeagnus x ebbingei ‘Limelight’ hedging:
  1. Foliage:
    • One of the standout features of ‘Limelight’ is its striking foliage. The leaves are broad, leathery, and have a distinctive lime-green colour, providing a vibrant and eye-catching display. The leaves also have a silvery underside, adding to the overall visual appeal.
  2. Size and Growth:
    • ‘Limelight’ is a vigorous grower, making it an excellent choice for creating a dense and lush hedge. It typically reaches a height and width of 8 to 10 feet (2.4 to 3 meters) when mature. Its growth habit is dense and upright, making it effective for privacy screening.
  3. Adaptability:
    • One of the notable advantages of this Elaeagnus variety is its adaptability to various soil types and environmental conditions. It can thrive in both full sun and partial shade, and it is tolerant of a range of soil pH levels. This adaptability makes it a versatile choice for different garden settings.
  4. Fragrance:
    • The shrub produces small, inconspicuous flowers in the fall, which emit a sweet and pleasant fragrance. While the flowers may not be the focal point of the plant, their fragrance adds to the overall sensory experience in the garden.
  5. Salt Tolerance:
    • Elaeagnus x ebbingei ‘Limelight’ is known for its tolerance to salt, making it suitable for coastal areas where salt spray can be a concern. This salt tolerance enhances its resilience in challenging environmental conditions.
  6. Maintenance:
    • This shrub is relatively low-maintenance, requiring minimal pruning to maintain its shape and encourage bushy growth. Regular pruning can be done in late winter or early spring to shape the hedge and remove any dead or damaged branches.
  7. Drought Resistance:
    • Once established, ‘Limelight’ exhibits good drought resistance. This quality is beneficial for regions with sporadic rainfall or for gardeners looking to conserve water.

How will my plants arrive?

Every plant is checked by our team before it leaves the nursery. Smaller plants are securely boxed, while larger specimens and pallet orders are shipped on our specialist plant courier network to protect foliage and rootballs in transit.

How long does delivery take?

Most orders are dispatched within 7 working days. Larger specimens and rootballed plants may take a little longer, as we deliver these by pallet — we'll contact you to arrange a convenient delivery date. Full details are on our [Shipping Costs] page.

What if my plant arrives damaged or in poor condition?

Let us know within 48 hours of delivery with a couple of photos and we'll put it right with a replacement or refund. We stand behind everything we grow and sell.

Do you offer any guarantee on your plants?

All our plants are nursery-fresh and healthy on dispatch and our shipping companies are hand selected for the care they take, so we guarantee the plant's health on delivery. Let us know immediately is soemthing is wrong and we will provide you support.

Are your plants grown in the UK?

We're a family-run nursery based in Welshpool, Powys. Plants are either grown here on site or sourced from trusted specialist growers, and everything passes through our nursery for inspection before dispatch.

Can I collect my order instead of having it delivered?

Yes — you're welcome to collect from our nursery in Welshpool. Just select collection at checkout [or: give us a ring on 01938 553015 to arrange a time].

Do you sell to the public or trade only?

Both. Despite the name, anyone can order from us — and we offer competitive pricing for landscapers, garden designers and trade customers buying in volume. [Contact us for trade terms.]

Can I get advice before I order?

Absolutely. We're real plants people, not a call centre — ring us on 01938 553015 or email orders@derwenwholesale.co.uk and we'll happily help with sizing, spacing, variety choice or anything else.

Do you deliver to my area?

We deliver across mainland UK. Some remote postcodes, the Scottish Highlands and islands may carry a surcharge or longer lead time — see our Shipping Costs page or get in touch.
