Alnus incana 10L pot
Alnus incana, commonly known as grey alder or speckled alder, is a fast-growing deciduous tree native to much of Europe, Asia, and North America. It is recognized for its smooth grey bark, slender form, and light green, serrated leaves that create a soft, airy canopy. Typically reaching heights of 40 to 70 feet, it is often found along rivers, streams, and wetlands, where its tolerance for poor, moist soils allows it to thrive. Like other alders, A. incana plays an important ecological role by fixing nitrogen in the soil through its symbiotic relationship with root-dwelling bacteria, improving fertility for surrounding vegetation. Its catkins emerge in early spring, providing seasonal interest and food for wildlife
